About Me

artist bio

It was the year of the rabbit when I was born into a family of artists. I saw resistance was futile and began drawing and painting before I could write. I am fickle; I switch from one medium to another, always distracted and tempted by a new option. Today I am focusing on my Citrasolv mixed media pieces and collage, with some assemblage mixed in.

creativity

My creative career began when I was quite young. I spent my time creating countless little books with ambitious titles like “all the animals in the world” and “the animals like you!”.

I was an industrious child; always deeply interested in conveying a story through pictures.

I started a practice of collaging when I took an art class in 9th grade — we were to create a visual notebook using both found objects as well as items with meaning such as ticket stubs, letter, photographs. This practice soon became a habit that continued through college and various life and career changes. A few years ago, I made a commitment to improve my collaging by working on it every day. There is something incredibly soothing and meditative in cutting out pictures, arranging them on the page and gluing them down.

I have dabbled in other forms, and have found a great deal of inspiration in using CItrasolv to alter magazine pages and then like finding forms in clouds or inkblots, I see pictures and bring them out using pen and ink.

Life

My work has always contained the dichotomy of whimsy and shadow.

Art has always seemed to me to act on a person in the same way as dreams do, with economy and depth, words and imagery doing double duty. We are invited to look at ourselves, see into the dark corners, learn about ourselves and others at the same time.
